The artist Otoniel began painting in 1979 and had his first solo exhibition in 1982. In 1983, he enrolled at the University of Brasília (UnB) to study fine arts.
He works with oil painting, often doing plein air painting. His works are known for their luminosity, chromatic vigor, and refined style, capturing the spontaneity of landscapes and people with affection.
Otoniel has a history of creating thematic exhibitions, which have led to the publication of several art books. He has produced series focused on the landscapes of the Goiás region and on the city of Brasília to commemorate its 60th anniversary.
He prefers to exhibit his work in small villages, remote communities, and other locations outside of the major urban cultural circuits. He has also developed a series of art documentaries called “Impressões Brasileiras” inspired by various Brazilian regions.
