ilipe Guimarães, born in Cascais on the 27th of January 1972, showed from a very early age his inclination for creative subjects. His desire to create led him to a course in woodwork (?A arte de trabalhar madeira?, ?The art of working wood?) at renown FRESS (Fundação Ricardo Espírito Santo Silva), creating pieces in wood from scratch, followed by a degree in urban furniture (?Design de Mobiliário Urbano?) at the Escola Superior de Artes Decorativas. Yet, life took him to the corporate world and only much later did he delve into creating paintings on canvases, quickly realising that painting on a daily basis was extremely fulfilling.He works mostly with acrylics, oils and collage and enjoys applying layers and varnish to finish off his pieces, in the belief that they enhance further the works.
His paintings, in the pop art style, focus mainly on tributes to icons, in music, cinema and sports, but he diversifies occasionally, especially in commissioned works.We saw his works in public for the first time at the 2nd edition of Art Expo Algarve, in September 2023.
