The artist is an Elite Signature Member of the Watercolor Art Society Houston, a National Watercolor Society Signature Member, and a Member of the Pulchri Studio Artist Guild in The Netherlands.
Growing up in the Netherlands, the ocean became an integral part of the artist’s childhood, living within walking distance of the North Sea. This profound connection to the sea has made it the main focus of her painting. She recalls witnessing the sea’s “beauty, its fury, and its bounty,” observing the fishing fleet, and seeing fishermen’s wives mending nets or awaiting their husbands’ return during winter storms. The artist is “forever fascinated by the seemingly limitless variety and ultimate complexity in the sea creatures” she encounters. Her work explores the beauty of marine colors and shapes, ranging from “soft and ethereal to stark and threatening,” driven by the belief that “Nature, once again, is perfection and it is a true challenge to try and depict that”.
Her career highlights include numerous awards, such as Best of Show at the Rockport Art Fest (1998, 1995) and the Memorial Award at the National Watercolor Society (1997). She has exhibited internationally, with solo shows at Pulchri Studio, The Hague (2023, 2007), and a notable 1990 exhibit at the World Trade Center in New Orleans, sponsored by the Netherlands Government. Her work is held in public collections, including Pulchri Studios, IBM, and Exxon Company USA. She also served as President of the Watercolor Society, Houston, Texas (non-profit).
